Online education and online tutoring are not all about students sitting in a dark room by themselves, plowing through problem after problem. With today's advancements in social networking technology and communication over the internet, learning online has become as personal as being in the classroom.

And it might even be more effective...

An article in the New York Times about a study conducted for the US Department of Education describes how the Internet will play a vital role in future of education. Over a 12 year period, the study found that "students doing some or all of the course online would rank in the 59th percentile in tested performance, compared with the average classroom student scoring in the 50th percentile."

This study reinforces what we have already discovered with our online tutoring program. Communication is an important part of the tutoring process, so we make it as easy as possible. Video, audio, emails and chat are just some of ways tutors interact with students while working on lessons online. An interactive, digital whiteboard system replaces pencil and paper and gives participants the feeling of working together, even when they're thousands of miles apart.
