Educational Consultant Spotlight: Mary Jordan

Mary Jordan, Ed.D. is the Founder and President of My College Compass, LLC. My College Compass, LLC is a college counseling practice designed to empower students when navigating the college process and post-secondary transition. Dr. Jordan specializes in working with students with ADD/ADHD, learning disabilities, and/or high functioning autism. She emphasizes the importance of the development of nonacademic college readiness skill preparation for students transitioning from high school to college.
Dr. Jordan is a graduate of Nova Southeastern University where she studied Special Education, Higher Education, and College Counseling with a focus on nonacademic readiness and the high school to college transition for students with learning disabilities. Dr. Jordan is a two time graduate of Johns Hopkins University where she earned a Post-Masters Certificate in Administration and Supervision and a Masters in Counseling. She is graduated with her Bachelors in Education, from Fairmont State University and has completed a College Counseling Certificate at UCLA. Dr. Jordan has also studied First-Year Student Success at the University of South Carolina.
As a lifelong learner and educator, Dr. Jordan works diligently to empower all learners to be college and career ready. Dr. Jordan is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Counselor Education and Supervision at Johns Hopkins University, an Adjunct Faculty and University Supervisor for Special Education student teachers at George Mason University, and in January, Dr. Jordan will begin teaching college counseling courses for UCLA Extension.
A national speaker on Learning Disabilities and Higher Education, Dr. Jordan has had the honor of being asked to present at the National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) Guiding the Way to Inclusion conference. She has also had the opportunity to speak at the Learning Disabilities Association of America (LDA) annual conferences in Chicago and Texas, and numerous Southern Association of College and Admissions Counseling (SACAC) annual conferences and the Potomac and Chesapeake Association of College and Admissions Counseling (PCACAC) annual conferences, as well as a College Board Own the Turf! conference.
An educational advocate, Dr. Jordan has spent time on Capitol Hill speaking with Educational Assistants for: West Virginia Senators John (Jay) Rockefeller and Joseph Manchin, as Virginia Senator Mark Warner, and Florida Senator Marco Rubio regarding Special Education, Higher Education, School Counselors and the Pathways to College Act. Alongside Dr. Janet Dudley-Eshbach, former President of Fairmont State University and current President of Salisbury University, Dr. Jordan traveled to the West Virginia State Capital in Charleston to address State Senators, Roman Prezioso and Joseph Minard as well as West Virginia House of Delegate Samuel Cann to discuss funding in Higher Education.
An experienced professional with over 15 years in education, Dr. Jordan has served in both the public and private sector. As preschool administrator, elementary counselor, middle school and high school teacher, high school college counselor, college instructor, and Executive Student Director of New Student Orientation at Fairmont State University, Dr. Jordan is well versed in education at many levels.
An accomplished teacher, Dr. Jordan received a Maryland Governor's Citation for Excellence in Education, a Montgomery County Public Schools Career and Futures Technology award, and an Outstanding Community Outreach award. Mary is honored to have been nominated as a Sallie Mae First Class Teacher of the Year and a Walt Disney Teacher of the Year. An active member of numerous professional organizations, Dr. Jordan stays current on trends in education, special education, college counseling, higher education, and school counseling.
