Educational Consultant Spotlight: Benchmark Associates, LLC

Benchmark Associates, LLC was founded by Anne Rogers Wager in Seattle over ten years ago to provide independent educational consulting. Anne received her BA and MA degrees from Stanford University. Since founding Benchmark, she has visited over 160 colleges worldwide and regularly hosts college admissions representatives in her office in Seattle. Anne has developed a product used by hundreds of students and counselors—the College Choice 101 cards—a fun card-sorting tool to discover what matters most as students begin the college search. She has counseled over 800 students through the admissions process.

Anne’s goal is to demystify the college application process and help students stay focused on a meaningful and effective plan. By filtering out the hype and implementing an individualized program, Anne can help students and parents relax and enjoy what should be an exciting and fulfilling time. When families initially ask about her approach to college counseling, Anne explains that she provides appropriate guidance to students in all stages of the process. However, her approach does not include micromanaging during this pivotal developmental stage, as Anne has found that students feel more connected to their final college choice if they take ownership of the process.

Anne provides hourly support only, allowing families the flexibility to use services on an à la carte basis, depending on their needs and budgets. Anne can simply develop a college list or provide support on an ongoing basis.

Anne is continually monitoring trends in admissions and life on college campuses by consulting high school counselors, college representatives, and current literature. She is committed both to making the college application process more rewarding and helping students find a college environment that will offer the greatest opportunities for personal and academic challenge, support, and success.
