Are you a master-writer, throwing down 12s on the SAT essay without breaking a sweat? Do you scoff at the SAT strategy of making up dates and statistics, choosing instead to pull from your wealth of historical and literary knowledge? The College Board has a challenge for you.

The company is teaming up with The Atlantic magazine to feature The Atlantic & College Board Writing Prize, a competition for 16-19 year-old high school students with a cash prize of $5,000 for first-place, $2,500 for six finalists. Students will submit essays that “accurately and insightfully analyze one of [a list of] important documents from U.S. history.” If your passion is John Winthrop’s “A Modell of Christian Charity,” Thomas Paine’s Common Sense, or Frankline D. Roosevelt’s “Day of Infamy” address, consider submitting a 1,000-2,000 word essay that describes the context, analyzes the author’s rhetorical devices, and connects the document to your personal experience. Submissions will be accepted from Jan. 1 to Feb. 28, 2015. More information can be found at the College Board.
